St. John's Reformed Church - Kannapolis

St. John's Church was founded on July 27, 1919, as St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church. Construction of the church building was completed in 1921 and the first service was held on July 10, 1919. We continue to meet in that same building. The church name was changed to St. John's United Church of Christ in 1957 when the Evangelical and Reformed Church changed its name.

In 1962, St. John's built a Fellowship Hall adjacent to the main church building. In 1989, we completed major renovation to upgrade our facilities, including the addition of an elevator tower.

St. John's Ministries

Sunday School

St. John's has Sunday School classes for people of all ages. From our children to our older adults, each class is designed to teach the students more about what it means to be a Christian in the world today. The classes meet at 9:30 AM on Sundays.

Morning Worship Service

St. John's holds it Sunday Morning Worship Service at 10:30 AM. We gather together to worship God and be challenged to follow him more fully in our lives. Our pastor attempts to bring God's word to us in ways that help us to live a full life that has a strong relationship to God.

Women's Circles

St. John's has three circles that provide opportunities for women to participate in Christian fellowship, spiritual growth, Bible study and prayer, as well as service and outreach projects. The Rebekah Circle, Dorcas Circle, and Jennie Peeler Circle meet monthly to exhibit God's love through their lives and carry out His work in the world.

After-School Ministry

Since 2007, St. John's has provided an after-school program for students attending Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. We have two teachers and several volunteers who work with these students each afternoon when school is in session.

St. John's UCC also donates school supplies, after-school snacks, paper products, school uniforms to needy students, and conducts an annual coat drive to provide support to students at Woodrow Wilson Elementary.

Choir

Each Sunday morning during the Morning Worship Service, our Adult Choir blesses the congregation with its beautiful music.

Bible and Book Studies

St. John's offers Bible and/or book studies from time to time that are designed to help us grow in our relationship to God.

Young at Heart

"Young at Heart" is a ministry of St. John's UCC for our senior citizens. We meet monthly for Fellowship, Food, Fun and Information. Join us on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. We may be Seniors, but we are "Young at Heart."

Children's Church

Every Sunday children over 5 years old participate in our Children's Church. Children's Church starts during Sunday School. The children light the altar candles and pass out bulletins for the Morning Worship Service. Then they gather for Bible lessons, video skits, singing and handbells. At church fellowship events, the children have performed their skits, sing or play handbells for the congregation. Children's Church has proven to be a good way to keep children active and learning while adults are engaged in the regular church service.

Vacation Bible School

During the summer, St. John's holds a one day Vacation Bible School. On that day, the children and youth from throughout the community are invited to have Bible Study, learn skits, play games, and enjoy good food.

Fall Festival

At Halloween, the children and youth from throughout the community are invited to a Fall Festival. They wear their costumes, play games, and enjoy treats and candy in a wholesome church setting.
