More about St. Joseph's Addiction Treatment & Recovery Centers

Since our founding by the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1971, St. Joseph's Addiction Treatment & Recovery Centers has served over 12,000 men and women who have come to us with the desire to recover from addictions that have made their lives and those of their families unlivable.

Our intensive treatment model is based on a multidisciplinary team approach and utilizes many principles espoused by the philosophies of the self-help fellowships of both Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.

Qualified Health Practitioners provide lectures that focus on the disease concept of addiction, self-esteem and emotions, nutrition, and a variety of other issues relevant to recovery. Lectures cover subject areas such as relapse prevention, spirituality, understanding the chemical nature of alcohol, the cycle of addiction, recovering from grief and loss, and establishing lasting relationships. Specialized women's programming and services for the co-occurring disordered are also available.

Each resident has a primary counselor who works to assist the client in attaining treatment objectives, acquiring aftercare placement, and in taking care of case management needs.

Residents also participate in Family Program sessions which educate both residents and their family members about the destructiveness of chemical dependency as a "family disease", and to assist in breaking through denial on the part of the both residents and families. Of note, St. Joseph's Family Program was the first residential offering in the country, and has served as a model for treatment facilities nationally.

Although recovery from addiction is a lifelong process, a recent outcome study revealed that a remarkable 93% of the men and women who came to St. Joseph's for treatment maintained sobriety, avoided recidivism, and made significant progress with employment.

If your life, or that of a loved one, has become unmanageable due to alcohol or drugs, please contact our Admissions Office today at (518) 891-3950.
