St. Mark’s is the direct successor of the first Christian church established in 1747 in what is now Amherst County, Virginia. The congregation of St. Mark’s has never been large, but support has always been strong, and the people caring. St. Mark’s celebrated its 250th anniversary on September 13, 1998, with the following thought:
“It is in remembrance of all those who have been a part of the glorious history of this parish, in thanksgiving for their contribution in the past,
that we here dedicate ourselves to the future.”
Under the massive limbs of an ancient oak tree, the bell still rings at nine o’clock each Sunday morning.
