St Mary's Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Pearland, TX

St. Mary’s Syro-Malabar Catholic Mission, Pearland was started as a Mass Center on 11/28/2010 on a rented Church building after obtaining permission from His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath, bishop of St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago. Considering the requests of the people located in three wards of St. Joseph Syro Malabar Catholic Church namely Pearland, Clearlake and Pasadena, the Parish Council of St. Joseph Church under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Jacob Parambukattil felt the need for a Mass Center for the growing faithful located in these areas and they unanimously decided to request His Excellency to obtain permission for a Mass Center.

The Mass Center was officially started with Holy Qurbana on 11/28/2010 at 4251 Schurmier Road, Houston, TX 77048. There were 40 registered families and 59 CCE students, and is growing since then. Now we have 120 registered families and 140 students studying for Faith Formation Class and a dedicated team of CCE Teachers.

The Mass Center was raised to the status of one of the Mission Centers of the Diocese on 11/06/2011 during the visit of His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath and named as St. Mary’s Syro Malabar Catholic Mission, Pearland, Texas. By the Grace of God and with generous monitory contributions of our Members, Mission could purchase 10 acres of land on O’Day Road in Pearland. The whole Mission is thrilled, excited and committed to build a Church of their own. Because we have grown tremendously we temporarily moved to a bigger church for our Sunday Holy Mass and CCE classes at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 10727 Hartsook St., Houston, TX 77034 from December 1st 2013 until we build our own church at O'Day Road.

We finished building our church at 1610 O'Day Road, Pearland, TX in April 2016 with God's blessing and generous contribution from its members and non-members. The new church was blessed on May 29th 2016 by our Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath and Aux. Bishop Mar Joy Alappat.
