St. Pamphilus was born in the late 6th century. He was well-known for his charity and piety. He was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Valva in Sulmona, Abruzzi, Province of Aquila, Italy. St. Pamphilus spent many hours in prayer and performed acts of mortification. He was especially devoted to the poor for whom he performed both corporal and spiritual works of mercy until his death on April 28, 706. He is interred at the Cathedral of Sulmona, Italy. Because the establishment of St. Pamphilus parish coincided with the Centenary of the Founding of the Immaculate Conception Province by Fr. Pamphilus da Magliano, Bishop Wright was inspired to name the new parish after his patron saint, St. Pamphilus. The parish is staffed by Franciscan Fathers of the Immaculate Conception, Province of New York.
