St Paul Lutheran of Cave Creek

On November 9, 1883 a groupd of men met to organize a new congregation and St Paul Lutheran Church, Cave Creek came into existence. Mr. Conrad Herbort donated land for a Church, pasonage and cemetery. In February of the following year Pastor Michael Haag arrived to become the congregation's first pastor.

In 1889 St Paul Lutheran Mission, Cave Creek became self-supporting with a baptized membership of 309. The succeeding years saw needed improvements and additions to the property. In 1891 the church was enlarged. In 1928 the chancel was added and in 1938 new church pews and the statue of Christ were dedicated.

In the 129 years history of St Paul, Cave Creek, nine sons of the congregation have gone into the ministry. Hugh T. Flachmeier, Helmuth C. God, Immanuel Haag, Ewald Herber, Arthur J. Mohr, Marvin O. Ottmers, Arthur D. Rode and Erwin Albert Rode.

1967 saw the beginning of the installation of our beautiful art glass windows as well as the historical marker honoring St Paul Lutheran as the oldest rural Church in Gillespie County.
