St. Scholastica Academy was a private, Roman Catholic, Benedictine all-girls high school in Chicago, Illinois. It was located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago.The school was a Benedictine college preparatory school for girls in Chicago, Illinois, educating students from 9th through 12th grade. The school opened in 1865 and was one of the oldest Catholic academies for young women in Chicago.The academy enrolled young women from diverse economic, religious, racial and ethnic backgrounds throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. In 2009, the student body was born in 17 different countries and was 31% Black, 31% White, 17% Latina, 14% Asian and 7% Multi-racial.In addition to college prep programs, the school offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for selected students in 11th and 12th grade. Students scored above the State of Illinois average on International Baccalaureate assessments. The average class size was 15 students. St. Scholastica Academy was the sponsored ministry of the Benedictine sisters of Chicago.It was announced on March 14, 2012 that SSA would close its doors at the end of the school 2012-2013 school year. The building is now occupied by an elementary school run by the UNO Network of Charter Schools.
