Starbase MCAS Beaufort

STARBASE is a congressionally funded program that compliments traditional classroom science and math instruction where your child attends school now. It is free to the schools. There are many STARBASE programs across our country and all are aboard a military installations – our program is the only one aboard a Marine Corps Base. During their week here we continually stress teamwork along with problem solving and experimentation supported by polite interaction with their Squadron mates during our daily activities. Among the many activities in our innovative curriculum that we will explore are Newton’s Three Laws of Motion in the Physics class; hands-on experiments dealing with nanotechnology and chemical changes in the Chemistry class aimed at firing up their imaginations; information technology (IT) activities via personal application of a computer aided design process using our computers to engineer a lunar rover and then learning how a 3-D Printer produces a scale model of that design in the Technology and Engineering classes; why numbers, data analysis and geometry are friendly subjects in the Mathematics class; and finally they will experience, via meeting a Marine during our scheduled tour, a glimpse of life aboard MCAS Beaufort.The DoD STARBASE program is designed to enhance an expand many STEM concepts taught in schools while introducing new tools, technologies, and school curriculum. It is not a replacement program for a school system's STEM curriculum. As such, it does support state requirements in local and national design requirements and teachers recognize these DoD STARBASE attributes in their survey responses.
