Stavanger Lutheran Church

Nestled among a few homes, and corn and soy fields, is the Stavanger Lutheran Church, located at 2904 N. 32nd Rd., north of Seneca, Illinois. Stavanger Lutheran has been serving the community since 1880. During these 134 years, 17 pastors have served this congregation. Rev. Philip Peterson is the current pastor.
Recently, Stavanger Lutheran Church has been involved with the foods resource bank (a Christian-based response to world hunger) and are presently helping support Matt Shields, with his missionary work serving in Africa called Blessman Ministries.
We offer worship service at 10:30 AM from September through May and at 9:30 AM in June, July, and August. Holy Communion is the first Sunday of each month. Sunday school begins the second Sunday in September and runs through May at 9:15 AM. This includes Sunday school for children and adults as well. Confirmation classes meet on Sunday mornings, at 8:30 AM September through May.
Stavanger has many organizations offered to its members: the men of the congregation meet on the first Saturday of the month for a breakfast meeting at 7 AM; the women of the church meet the first Wednesday of each month at 1:30 PM; the Alter Guild meets the first Friday of the month at 7 PM; the Homebuilders meet the second Sunday of the month at 7 PM, and for the senior citizens, the Pioneers meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month 12 noon for a potluck meal and program.
One of the highlights in the history of Stavanger Lutheran Church was when the raining king of Norway, Europe, King Olav IV, visited the church in 1975.
