Steelton Community Cats

SCC works to reduce the over-population of free-roaming cats through its TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) program. More than 6000 cats have been cared for in this program since 2010. Community cats (also known as feral cats) live outside with other cats in colonies or groups, and are generally not friendly to people. Our volunteers help colony caretakers in Steelton, Der, Swatara, Susquehanna, and Lower Swatara Townships through contracted services by humanely trapping the cats, providing them with food, shelter, medical care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgeries before returning them to their colonies. The program not only reduces the over-population problem, but it reduces the spread of diseases like FIV and rabies, which it saves the municipalities money.
