Since 1949, the Stepinac High School Drama Club has won critical acclaim for its productions of fall dramas and spring musicals, staged on the school’s Major Bowes Theater. It has also won international recognition by performing in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The productions have nurtured the talents of so many young men and women at Stepinac. Some went on to greater fame as professional actors including Academy Award winner Jon Voight and Emmy-Award winner Alan Alda.
The Stepinac Drama Club, which in conjunction with the young women of neighboring high schools, has more than 100 members each year. The Stepinac stage crew consists of 30 students. The Drama Club has also staged performances exclusively for audiences of elementary school children to continue Stepinac’s tradition of developing a love of the theater from generation to generation.
