More about Still Waters

One of our dreams has always been to have a mountain cabin to share with others. Our family loves to vacation in the mountains...the whole cabin in the woods, mountains all around, waterfalls, rivers, streams, campfires, fishing, tubing, horseback riding, hiking, apple orchards, whitewater rafting, and enjoying nature in the great outdoors just fills us all with happiness.

While vacationing this past spring, we absolutely fell in love with the Blue Ridge area. So, we decided to take a look at a few cabins on Fightingtown creek in a little town (we're talking about a population in 2010 of less than 500 people!) called Epworth. In life, there are times when you just know. The minute we came to look at Still Waters we just knew- it was time to take the risk and execute our dream.

We knew this was the place for our family and others to build memories because of the sweet, quaint cabin on an extremely private, almost 1 1/2 acres of land on Fightingtown creek front. Fightingtown Creek is a beautiful (and wide) creek that has no public access, so the trout fishing is amazing. In fact, it's known for being one of the best for trout fishing in the area. The land is lovely, tree-canopied and flat, with nearly 200 feet of creek front. To listen to and watch the peaceful waters slowly roll by is wonderful. There is a firepit area near the creek to enjoy it close up.

In addition to the land being perfect, the cabin was great because it was built with being able to sleep a lot of folks comfortably in mind. There are two private rooms downstairs and two lofts above each room. In addition, there is a pull out couch that is a great option for the kiddos. A blow up mattresses can easily fit as well. This makes it easy for our family to have our extended family and friends to vacation with us!

Blue Ridge is such a great area and a short drive from Still Waters. The people are amazing, hard-working, and go out of their way to help each other. The pace of life is refreshing here, and you really get a sense that the focus is on everything that matters- family, friends, and community. A Thursday night visit to pickin' in the park (when in season) on the river will confirm this :). Downtown Blue Ridge is adorable and just about ten minutes away. You'll pass Mercies orchards on the drive to downtown. They have an amazing breakfast- be careful, the apple fritters will get you! Downtown is full of small home and clothing boutiques, restaurants, and fudge shops. Be careful of the fudge too- you have been warned! If you love fresh trout, Blue Ridge is the place to eat it!

There is so much to do around the area. We have only scraped the surface with our outings so far. The Ocoee Whitewater Rafting Center is nearby. There are many hikes and beautiful waterfalls to visit. Our family loves to visit the swinging bridge- it's a great place to picnic and spend the day frolicking around the water. There are many places to go horseback riding. You can tube right on our creek, but there is also tubing close by on the Toccoa River. The activities are endless and the kids have so much exploring the outdoors. Our kids head outside as soon as the sun is up and don't stop until bedtime, and oh boy, do they earn their showers at night!

After a full day, it's great to take a soak overlooking and listening to the creek on the massive deck at the cabin. Or, sit in the rockers or adirondack chairs and visit with family or friends. The firepit is a great place to hang out too, and it's a great place for marshmallow roasting and s'more making. There is also Dish network for watching TV inside, internet access, WIFI, and an Xbox on sight with some games for the kids (or big kids). We find the beds to all be really comfortable and we sleep well at night :). All the bedding is plush and new, and all the linens are soft and new as well. The kitchen is well stocked, organized, and clean. The entire cabin is very clean and we are thankful for a great couple of ladies who make sure this is the case. These things are important to our family and we are sure are important to your family as well.
