After injuring his back in high school football game, Dr. Shimmel realized how significant chiropractic care was in restoring him to maximum health. Thus, he went on to attend Kent State University and then graduated from Logan Chiropractic College with a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 1986.

In 1987 Dr. Shimmel opened Stow-Kent Chiropractic Clinic. He is a member of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association, and served as president in the Ohio State Chiropractic Association – District 5.
