My current work is based on the juxtaposition and interplay of steel and high karat gold. I am fascinated by the sense of power and allure that results from combining these two metals. In addition, the mixing of metals results in work that evokes both ancient and modern aesthetics.
My interest is in creating jewelry that is unexpected through the use of asymmetrical forms and elements. While most of my work is simple in design, it builds layers of interest through textures, stones and patinas.
My jewelry begins with a sheet of mild steel. I alloy my own high karat gold for fusing so that I can control its color. In addition some of my pieces include a technique called Nunome Zougan, which involves mechanically fusing gold by burnishing it to a highly textured surface.
