Submarine training in Norfolk began as the Submarine Training Department of the Fleet Antisubmarine Warfare Training Center in June 1976. In February 1984 this department became the Naval Guided Missile School Detachment. The SUBTRAFAC campus consists of 3 building's:

Ramage Hall, named for VADM Lawson P. Ramage a submarine Commanding Officer, Medal of Honor recipient from World War II, contains administration, classrooms and office spaces. Allcorn Auditorium, located inside Ramage was named for LT Frank W. Allcorn, VADM Ramage's Torpedo Officer on the PARCHE, during World War II.
The Damage Control/Fire Fighting Facility, Miller Hall, is named for World War II submariner LCDR Frank Burt Miller. Miller Hall was Dedicated in July 1991 and consists of two Trainers:
Firefighting Team Trainer
Damage Control Team Trainer.
Building CEP-162 N contains Submarine Fire Control, Sonar, Navigation and Ship Control team trainers. CEP-162 S contains our IUSS schools.
The IUSS school, formerly of Fleet Antisubmarine Training Center Atlantic, became part of SUBTRAFAC, Norfolk in February 1994. Located in CEP-162S, the IUSS schoolhouse originally provided apprentice, journeyman, and junior officer level training to personnel en route to Navy IUSS installations. In response to the Navy's downsizing and rating mergers(OT into STG), the IUSS department developed a "C" school for journeyman STG, AW and STS personnel, to train them in IUSS specific analysis techniques and equipment sub system operation.
