Sugar Bakery

Hi I'm Chris and I love to bake. Alone in the kitchen at 3 am, the radio turned up loud, the oven slowly taking the chill off the room - this is when I come alive. The feel of dough on my hands and the scent of yeast being coaxed into life with water and flour. This is what I love, this is my sugar, and more than anything, I want to share this love.

I want to open my bakery, Sugar, in my home town of Angels Camp. Breakfast pastries, sweet and savory. Quality coffee and the best scone you've ever had. Fresh artisan bread. Croissants. Specialty desserts and cakes. I can't wait to fill my shop with delicious smells and gorgeous treats, throw open the doors and welcome the world.

Angels Camp has an up and coming Historic downtown, with some really great businesses and attractions. The one thing missing is a bakery. Angels Camp needs a spot where tourists and locals can stop for a coffee and a scone in the morning, pick up fresh baked bread or sit down and share a slice of pie with a friend. With your help, I intend to fill this need with my bakery, Sugar.

I currently bake for three local restaurants and a coffee shop and I have a quite a following. With a larger, better equipped location I will be able to sell baked goods at my own shop, and I will also be able to increase my current wholesale business. And for those of you who love my treats but are not local, I intend to offer online ordering, shipping and a care package subscription service.

I’ve leased a small space and I am getting ready to start renovations. There's still a lot of work to be done before Sugar can open: I need to build a kitchen, buy equipment & decorate. I have secured most of the money, but need your help to complete the project. Your support would mean so much to me!

The Kickstarter funds are key to the success of Sugar. Not only will they provide me with the capital necessary to complete the project, but will also give you, friends, family and the community, a role in this venture that has been in my dreams for so long.

The funds raised through Kickstarter will be used to help cover construction costs and buy equipment for the bakery. The stated goal is $12,000 but any money I raise over the goal will go towards additional equipment and increased production capability.

Risks and challenges

Projects of this scope will always present challenges: City & county permits, renovations, etc. I’ve got a team of advisers experienced in opening and running successful restaurants as well as marketing and branding, so I feel confident we are prepared to overcome any challenges.
