Sugar Tree Grove United Presbyterian Church

Sugar Tree Grove United Presbyterian Church is the oldest church in Warren County. Sugar Tree Grove began with 29 members in the home of John Caldwell, Sr. on November 21, 1830. It was first called Henderson Church, named for a creek a few miles away. The first church building was constructed of logs and was 24x30ft. in size and was made of brick. It was referred to by many as "The Old Brick Church." During this time the session met on occasion under a black walnut "Session Tree" and discussed the affairs of the congregation. Sabbath or Sunday school was Started in this church in 1857. During 1873, the Henderson Women's Missionary Society was organized. The present church structure was built in 1874 about one-half mile west of the old brick church. The site was moved due to the changes in the road. In 1885, the first pastor to live in the parsonage, one-half mile north of the church, moved in. In December of 1930 the session tree was cut down. On October 5, 1941, a unanimous action changed the name of the Henderson Church to Sugar Tree Grove United Presbyterian Church. This instrument is filed in the Warren County Record's office. Our current Stated Supply Pastors are Rev. Dr. Daniel Ott and Rev. Dr. Teri Ott. We currently hold our Sunday School classes at 10:00am, and our Church Services at 11:00am
