The Summerville Fire & Rescue Department is a combination paid/volunteer department. The department consists of 94 career and 10 volunteer fire suppression personnel. Chief Richard Waring, IV heads the department. Suppression personnel are divided into 3 Battalions working 24 hour shifts.

The headquarters station (Weber Station, named after the late former Fire Chief and Town Council member John H. Weber) is located at 300 West Second North Street. It houses Engine 1, Truck 1, a 95' aerial ladder truck, and Battalion 1. Station 2 is located at 110 Luden Drive, equipped with Engine 2 . Station III, named in The Richard G. Waring III Fire Station, named in honor of retired Fire Chief and Public Safety Director Ricky Waring, is located at 1701 Old Trolley Road. This station is equipped with Engine 3 and Truck 2, a 100' aerial platform. Station IV, named in honor of retired Fire Chief Avery J. Lord, is located at 164 Sheep Island Road. This station is equipped with Engine 4. Station V is located at 101 West Butternut Road. This station is equipped with Engine 5 and also houses "Bertha" our 1929 American La France pumper.

Emergency services rendered include, but are not limited to, fire suppression; fire investigation; vehicle and industrial extrication; hazardous materials incident response; disaster preparedness and response; emergency medical first responder services; and mutual aid to other local fire and law enforcement agencies.

In addition, the department provides fire prevention education and local training to local businesses, industry, churches, schools, and civic organizations. Department personnel are also heavily involved in various student mentoring programs at the elementary and high school level

Fire department management recognizes that our personnel are our most valuable asset, and as an organization, we stand by to perform any job requested by the Mayor and Council, and to assist the community with tasks that other agencies are unwilling or unable to perform.
