More about Summit Historical Society

When people come together to collect artifacts and preserve historical buildings, one might expect to find a group of senior citizens discussing some fairly boring topics. To tell the truth, that's the road we were headed down as an organization. After all, Summit is a small town, whose population is composed of mostly senior citizens. But a funny thing happened on the way to extinction - we moved the decaying Liberty-White Depot to town, and in the process discovered our real purpose. Yes, we want to save old buildings, such as the Depot - but now we know why we do it and how we can continue to do our work in the future.
We do it because we want these children to have a chance to know what life was like here a long time ago, what fun a good, old-fashioned Christmas was many years back. And we know that we can continue doing this good work if people such as you join in and help us - so we make it fun. And that's about all there is to our organization.
Oh, along the way we publish history books, sponsor arts festivals and kids fests, produce the Christmas model train & dollhouse exhibition, and do some fundraising through events such as our annual shrimp boil.
