Sumner County CASA is a non-profit, United Way agency. CASA recruits community volunteers and trains them to become the voices of alleged abused or neglected children in the juvenile court system. Volunteers are appointed to serve kids that are in the custody of the state however more often than not Sumner County CASA volunteers are appointed to children that are at risk of entering custody. The court system appoints CASA to a child’s case when there are concerns that there is more going on in children’s lives than what is being represented in the courtroom. The CASA volunteer becomes the “watchdog” for the judge, giving the judge a unique, lay person’s view into the child’s life.
