Steep Mountain Farm

Sustaining Adventures is a regenerative agriculture collaboration between 3 friends and an 11-acre plot of land in Cache Valley, UT.

Life’s adventures have led us to where we are interested in a deep-rooted connection with a piece of land and a supportive community. We see this relationship as our next, big adventure.

We intend to utilize ecological systems principles to manage our land. We hope to produce high quality fruits and vegetables, compassionately-raised meat animals and dairy, and a diverse ecosystem that supports the whole operation. Whatever it becomes, we plan on having a good time making it happen!

Starting more-or-less from scratch makes it difficult to say what we are. Right now, we describe ourselves in terms of our vision and our values. We see a place to live that is a model for how to treat the planet, a place that provides us with plenty of good recreation and meaningful ties to the community, a place where we are close to the food we eat. Our values include environmental stewardship, quality living, and frugality.

We are into working hard, playing hard, kicking around with friends and a beer in hand, work parties, work trades, trading generally, upcycling and repurposing, getting better as humans, being close to our food, being close to the planet, being kind, worms (we really like worms), the diffusion of good ideas, contemplation, backcountry skiing, travel, coming home, and finding ourselves in cool places. If any of that sounds good to you, then you should participate or come for a visit.

You have to be on the farm every day to make the farm successful; at least that is what we’ve been told. Well, every day that we’re here we hope to pass on a photo or a video to let you know how the project is coming along. And if we skip work, it’ll probably be for a different adventure and we’ll share those too.
