SWC Academy

SWC Academy began as a vision and became a possibility in 2005 when a small group of passionate and innovative educators collaborated to find ways to support students who struggled in writing. Writing is the primary basis upon which your work, your learning, and your intellect will be judged—in college, in the workplace, and in the community. Many students today get overwhelmed not knowing how to organize their thoughts and to properly articulate it in written form. Some students even associate writing with anxiety-producing exams and a whole lot of hard work.

At SWC Academy, we break down writing in a series of steps to allow students to learn the structure as well as the strategies associated with the particular genre. What separates us from traditional centers is that we focus on the writing process while introducing key learning skills through strategic mini lessons. Instead of spending the majority of class time on spelling tests, grammar worksheets, handwriting practice, and other isolated sub-skills of writing; students will develop their writer's craft through a highly complex workshop format.

At SWC Academy, we offer a three-course technology-writing program that is very similar to a university setting. Each course is unique and focuses on key skills that will help students in the classroom and beyond. We use research-based strategies that are aligned with 21st Century and Common Core State standards. SWC Academy teachers use a systematic approach and will guide students as they explore their craft.
