Syracuse Brick House, Inc., d/b/a Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare (SBH), was founded in Syracuse, NY as a not-for profit organization, in 1920. The organization amended its corporate purpose in 1959 to begin a mission focused on a “home for men in need of rehabilitation because of alcoholism.” Since that time SBH continued to grow and broaden its services to provide support and case management, treatment, education, and residential services that promote recovery from the effects of substance use and mental health disorders and other behavioral health issues.
Our corporate offices are located at 329 N. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13203. Administration resides on the second floor of this building while the first floor houses Residential Housing staff, case managers, and a computer lab that supports SBH’s K.E.E.S. program. The Outpatient Substance Use Disorder, Compulsive Gambling currently has a census of 434 patients generating over 4440 patient visits per month, and SBH’s Mental Health Clinic currently has 327 patients generating over 875 visits per month, both of these clinics are also located at 329 N. Salina Street.

The Willows on James Street, Syracuse NY, is a 65 bed inpatient facility providing withdrawal and stabilization services. In 2009, SBH opened a 25 bed inpatient medically monitored and medically stabilized evaluation center at 1350 University Avenue in Rochester, NY. This facility has 15 medically supervised and 10 medically monitored beds. Also in Monroe County, SBH offers Shelter Plus Care services that provides 16 beds to people that need additional recovery and stabilization assistance.
Additional services provided in Syracuse, NY are: 86 units of Supportive Living Housing located at 630 W. Onondaga Street, 713 & 720 Hickory Street, 200 Highland Street and 753 James Street. Included in these 86 units are 9 units for chronically homeless individuals with substance use and mental health disorders and other behavioral health issues.
Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare also offers a Permanent Housing Program, through HUD & OASAS funding, which currently assists 89 people. These residences are located at 753 James Street, and at scattered sites throughout Syracuse, NY. SBH also owns and operates Community Residences at 121-125 Green Street, 1074 W. Genesee Street, 168 Lincoln Avenue, and 3606 James Street. SBH half-way houses currently assist 86 people.
SBH services are offered 24-hour, 7-day-a-week services for residential and inpatient services. The Syracuse outpatient facilities are a 6-days-a-week operation that includes evenings and Saturdays with a 24 hour on call helpline.
SBH’s services are subsidized by Federal, State and County public funds. For Syracuse, NY the total number of patients/people served in 2013 was 3094. For the services SBH delivers in Rochester, NY the number of patients/people served in 2013 was 956.
