More about Tatum Pecan Pie Festival

The Tatum Pecan Pie Festival is not your everyday street fair with crafts and food, although we have plenty of treats and eats. Behind every corn dog, funnel cake, and hand made hair bow is a bigger reason to come and check out the fun. In 2012, Founder Crystal Jenkins, was interested in bringing free or lower cost mammograms to women that might otherwise never afford this life saving screening tool. In order to raise enough money to provide the services to 10 women, she needed an event that would generate enough interest to facilitate that type of sponsorship. Ms. Jenkins presented her idea to the City of Tatum and received the blessings of the City Council to have the event within the City Limits. In 2013, Tatum Economic Development Corporation officially took over the facilitation of the Tatum Pecan Pie Festival, but decided to keep the breast cancer awareness and low cost mammograms at our roots and with the help of the Tatum Elementary School Ambassadors and local business sponsorships we were able to donate over $1000.00 to the mammogram unit that year. In 2014 and 2015 we decided to add Carter Blood Drive, Tatum Medical Clinic, and Breedlove Family Practice for a complete health awareness section to our growing festival. Each booth providing a variety of information and a different level of wellness benefit or ability to benefit free of charge. 2016 will be another year that we aim to help women in need of low cost screenings, as well as provide information on other wellness information.
