Tay-Yas

TAY-YAS, pronounced te-yahs, is taken from the Native American Caddo language, and is a word that means friendship. The story goes that early Spanish explorers discovered one of the first American tribes known as the Caddo Nation. These indigenous people were native farmers and hunters that settled throughout what is now Texas. It is said, upon the spaniards first discovery of this tribe, they greeted the weary explorers with shouts repeating the word sounding much like tay-yas. Apparently, this word later became sort of a label for the region. This later changed to Tejas, and eventually to Texas. This story recounts how the name of our state came about.

We feel this name describes us best for a few self-obvious reasons. One being that we become instant friends to any person who walks through that door. It’s in our nature. We are Texas native and our greetings usually come with a firm handshake, a look in the eyes, and a tall glass of iced tea. Lastly, our family name carries a “Tay”.
