More about Temple Emanuel of Kensington, MD

Temple Emanuel, the oldest Reform Congregation in Montgomery County, was formally organized in August 1952, and affiliated with the Reform Movement in March 1953. Rabbi Leon Adler became our first full-time rabbi in July 1953, and he continued to serve the congregation until his death in 1998 years later, after which Rabbi Warren Stone was installed as its second spiritual leader. The congregation is a partnership between its members and its professional staff. Volunteers serve on Temple committees dealing with the range of Temple activities: fund raising, publicity, the Religious School, the Early Childhood Center, buildings and grounds, religious services, adult education, social action, Green Shalom and others, as well as Women of Reform Judaism and the Temple Brotherhood. For our teenage members there is KESTY, with a youth adviser and its own lounge on the lower level. Whatever the talents or interests you bring, there is a place for you in the Temple family.
