More about Tennessee Missionary Baptist Church

CHURCH HISTORY

*February 11, 1956, Rev. H.N. Napoleon formed a mission in the living room of his home at 4792 Seyburn, Detroit, Michigan.
*On March 18, 1956, the mission moved from his home to a storefront at 3317 Gratiot in Detroit.
*On March 25, 1956, Rev. H. N. Napoleon was ordained and installed as Pastor by the late Rev. R. W. Wright, Pastor of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Having been born, the church was given the name, Tennessee Missionary Baptist Church.
*November, 1960, the church moved from the Gratiot location to 4844 McClellan. From the beginning, the dream of the congregation was to build a church from the ground up. This dream became a reality on February 15, 1973, with the completion of the church building.
*On March 18, 1973, the congregation marched into the new building at 2100 Fischer of Detroit, Michigan. God had brought Tennessee Missionary Baptist Church from 3317 Gratiot to 4844 McClellan in four years, seven months, and nineteen days, and from 4844 McClellan to 2100 Fischer in twelve years, four months and eleven days. On January 10, 1978, the membership paid off the mortgage on the new edifice, and on March 18, 1978, we celebrated the Church*s Twenty-Second Anniversary and their mortgage-burning ceremony. On June 17, 1979, Tennessee laid its cornerstone, with King David Grand Lodge in charge. The congregation continued to grow and prosper through the leadership of Rev. Harry N. Napoleon.
*After forty-five years of shepherding the flock, Pastor Napoleon retired in 2001. Nominated to replace him were Reverend Maurice Cotton and Reverend Milbrun Lester Pearson II, Reverend Napoleon*s grandson. The membership selected Reverend Pearson as Pastor, and he was installed on Sunday, March 25, 2001 amidst a great celebration, with the sanctuary filled to capacity. Now through the leadership of Pastor Pearson the Tennessee Missionary Baptist Church continues to strive for a deeper commitment to Christ and His church through the studing of God's word. We are continuing to save souls by the words of our organizer "The Church Makes a Difference".
