More about Terra Blues

Established in 1990, Terra Blues was one of many New York City blues clubs dotting the island of Manhattan. As the years passed, Terra Blues found itself to be the last remaining blues performance venue in the area. For over 25 years, our stage has been a northeast stopping point for America’s blues greats (Hubert Sumlin, Honeyboy Edwards, Magic Slim, Little Milton, Johnny Copland, Philip Walker...) and a starting point for new talents who have gone on to be recognized with the highest honors in our genre (Guy Davis, Ruthie Foster, Valerie June, Blind Boy Paxton, Jr Mack …).

The doors at Terra Blues are an entryway into another world. The candlelit tables and intimate atmosphere evoke the relaxed, hospitable, and unpretentious air of music saloons past. The shows at Terra Blues are comprised of two distinct sections. The evening opens with an acoustic set that can range from a solo artist to a group performance --- all in the spirit of acoustic blues. The band, which is traditionally an electric 4 piece, takes the stage at 10 PM and closes out the evening.

Terra Blues is more than just a performance venue. We believe our unique and professional microcosm allows for the preservation and growth of a dwindling American art form. Though the music has always been front and center, you can’t get away without a gander at the bar’s extensive American whiskey selection - the largest of any performance venue in the world. See our extensive list of American bourbons and whiskies here:

Having served up great music and good spirits for over 25 years, Terra Blues is a Greenwich Village fixture that will be needed here for years to come.
