More about Terrapin Farm

Terrapin Farm is a certified organic farm and greenhouse near Whitefish Montana with a deep commitment to giving more to our environment than we take from it. Growing over 500 varieties, many of which are selected through an on farm breeding program, Terrapin Farm produces a unique selections of vegetables and herbs appropriate for our micro-climate.

Terrapin Farm is committed to the community and it shows. Terrapin Farm introduced CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to the Flathead Valley in 1995 and remains the only organic CSA program in the Valley. The Terrapin Farm CSA program was created to drive community involvement in organic farming, welcoming its member families to participate in all aspects from seed to harvest.

Other aspects of Terrapin's community involvement include working with local schools to develop healthier lunch programs as well as offering opportunities for field trips where students learn hands on. Volunteers are welcome to come on out, pull up a weed, and stay a while. Tours may be arranged to educate individuals and groups on how and where their food is grown.

The farm has an intensive apprenticeship program and welcomes drop-in/work trades and visitors. Over a dozen former apprentices are currently farming on their own farms and still frequently "consult" with Terrapin Farm.

Terrapin Farm owner and operator, Judy Owsowitz, has been farming in the challenging climate of Northwestern Montana for over 30 years. She was a member of the steering committee to set up the Montana certification program and served on the first Montana Organic Commodity Advisory Council. Judy was influential in the establishing of the Montana Organic Association, serving as it's first Chairperson, and continuing to serve on the board. She also is active with the policy committee of the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association.

The Terrapin truck is a fixture at local farmers markets sporting our signature turtle munching on a famously sweet Terrapin carrot.
