More about Decatur Alpaca Cottage

Imagine well-appointed and peaceful comfort situated on an urban farmlet with all the convenience of proximity to Atlanta ~ this is The Decatur Alpaca Cottage! We rent through Airbnb, so please visit our listing there https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/15936463.

Awaken in your cozy, memory foam bed to the sounds of the wind in the trees, hens clucking, and crowing roosters all reminiscent of a simpler, slower paced time. The Decatur Alpaca Cottage is a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife and Bird Friendly Habitat and situated on a small working urban near the city of Atlanta. Adjacent to the cottage is a fenced field in which chickens free range, friendly and magical Peruvian and Bolivian alpaca (like small llama) roam about and live as sociable companion animals.

The Decatur Alpaca Cottage features a comfy bedroom, bathroom, spacious sitting and dining areas, heat and air conditioning, fully equipped kitchen, Roku television, screened porch, and a pergola with rocking chairs. The cottage is further enhanced with a small cottage garden in the side yard with herbs and seasonal vegetables. In front of the cottage is a young natural dye garden which will, in time, provide plants and flowers specifically planted with the idea of dying fabric and yarns using natural dyes.

You'll want to sip your coffee, tea, or a glass of wine on the porch with floor to ceiling screen so as not to obstruct the beautiful views. The pergola has a view of the field so you can watch the alpaca and chickens from the comfort of a eucalyptus rocking chair. You may wish to stroll through the adjacent organic, non-GMO vegetable garden planted by your host or venture to the field gate and visit with the animals. A tin roof of early 19th century South Georgia barn tin is planned for 2017, so if it rains, you'll have a night of raindrop rhythm.

The cottage is comfortably furnished with an eye for simple beauty in mind. A plush L-shaped sofa and oversized chair and ottoman were selected with relaxation in mind. The bed includes a 15" queen-sized medium cool aloe gel memory foam mattress. Vintage architectural accents including a resin filled heart of pine door dating to the late 1800’s (hung barn-door style) and a porch column accent salvaged from an early 1900’s Cabbagetown home enhance the simple beauty of a quiet haven in which to rest, relax, celebrate special occasions, and build new memories. The bed and bath linens are high thread count premium quality and the kitchen is equipped for cooking, should you wish to do so. The work of local artists and artisans are featured; Brian Bohanan’s folk art trees and Southern Botanics pressed flowers adorn and Hunky Dory Fibers’ alpaca blankets are available to snuggle up in.

Guest Access:
We have room to sleep 3 guests. In addition to the queen sized bed, we have linens, pillows, and a comforter for the over-sized sofa. The cottage has a coded door lock so you may arrive at your convenience. The code is provided upon confirmed rental and changed between each guest.

Interaction with Guests:
We live in the property’s main house and are available if you have questions. We are happy to give you a tour of our working farm of rare and beautiful chickens, stunning alpacas, and even a couple bunnies. To add to the wonder of our small urban farm, home hatched baby chicks are the occupants of the penthouse brooders from time to time!

We grow our own organic fruits and vegetables and have pampered spoiled chickens that lay beautiful organic eggs. A dear friend says: "you can taste the love." Organic, free range eggs are available for purchase on an as available basis.

The Neighborhood of Decatur, 30033:
Although the neighborhood is residential but we are a working farm, so you'll hear the crowing of roosters although somewhat muffled by fencing and the cottage windows. Although this is an urban oasis and our Nirvana, please be aware you're near a city (about 20-25 minutes from downtown) and you may hear the occasional siren or train bell during your stay. You'll also hear the birds that live in the surrounding trees, the humming of alpacas, and the clucking of the nearby hens.

Parking:
Parking is available adjacent to the cottage and there is sufficient space to turnaround.

Getting Around:
There is public MARTA bus a short walk down from The Atlanta Alpaca Cottage. UBER is always just a few minutes away, usually just a 5-10 minute wait. You also have free parking if you have a car.
