More about The American Legion Department of Indiana

The American Legion Department of Indiana was chartered August 1, 1920. There are more than 400 American Legion posts located in Indiana with more than 90,000 members. The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veteran service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to servicemembers and veterans.
Individual Indiana posts in communities are grouped by county, district, and the Department of Indiana. All state departments fall under the national American Legion Headquarters located in downtown Indianapolis. At each level the Legion has a committee devoted to Americanism, community service, youth activities, volunteerism, legislative and religious matters, veteran’s rehabilitation, and more.
American Legion members volunteer and contribute to the wellbeing of their individual communities from donating blood each year, awarding scholarships, participating in community projects, giving emergency aid and charter youth activities. Many of the individual Posts have a clubhouse, which is used by the community as well as for American Legion social functions.
