More about The Anchorage

The Anchorage is an Italianate Mansion built in 1859 by Douglas and Eliza Putnam. The home has had many families live in it including the family of the Knox Shipbuilders here in Marietta and the MacTaggarts, an Oil Man and then given to his sister following his death. It was turned into a Nursing Home for some time, before it sat vacant for 10 years.
The Washington County Historical Society purchased the home in 1996, and while smaller projects have been ongoing, we have finally accomplished one of our greater projects, a new roof for the majority of the house!!!
We still have two sections that need a new roof, and we are currently trying to raise the funding for these projects, as well as restoring the interior of the home, with the end goal of turning it into a museum and community center.
