The Carter Payne

Built in 1897, with land donated by General Palmer, this building was originally constructed as the Carter-Payne Chapel, an African Methodist Episcopal church. It was always intended to be a community gathering place, for celebrating, mourning, meeting neighbors, and to it's original purpose it shall return!
