More about The Color Visualism Academy

Hello there art lovers! My name is Byron Schexnayder and I am a Fine Arts artist that has moved from the state of Mississippi to the Boise/Meridian, ID area. Since moving here, a year and a half ago, I have been greatly impressed with the beauty of this Gem State and the appreciation of art by it's people. This has inspired me to create a class that would teach the understanding of art from my past 20 years of instruction from art professors and other artists that I have had the privilege to studied under.

One of those art professors is the great teacher and painter, Sammy Britt, who was an art professor at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS for over 35 years. Mr. Britt's painting instruction hails from the great french impressionist, Claude Monet. In 1963, Mr. Britt had moved to Provincetown, MA to study with Mr. Henry Hensche at the Cape Cod School of Art where Mr. Hensche instructed several artists during the 1960's and on. There, Mr. Britt learned Mr. Hensche's language of color, that had originated from Monet's pursuit of truth in color, that is called "Color Visualism". Mr. Britt then took this understanding of art and instructed hundreds of students, such as acclaimed painters Gerald Deloach, Richard Kelso, and Geroge T Thurmond to name a few, over the years.

These classes would focus on that understanding of color visualism that allows an artist to pursue the knowledge of light keys or light planes that, to our eyes, represents everything in nature.

These classes will start with a pre-class that will be an introduction to the three month course, that will be held at the JUMP Building in downtown Boise. The regular classes will be each Wednesday after that, for one month and will then pick up for the remainder of the three month curriculum at a location that will be announced at a later date.

The beginning of these classes would be an introduction and history of color visualism and understanding how it can benefit an artist's career. We would then go over materials for art projects and start and introductory drawing of simple shapes, to allow students to become familiar with how light works. In the next few weeks, more complicated drawings will make up the classes which in turn will lead into paintings. Painting would be then the main focus of the classes after that.
