The Cook’s Garden by HGEL will support the growing food revolution by promoting HGEL’s approach to hyper-locavorism. At our first location, the HGEL urban growers at The Cook’s Garden will work with the best and brightest chefs and mixologists as well as home cooks on Abbot Kinney’s restaurant row in the heart of Venice, custom growing the culinary ingredients for both the professional and home kitchen…. all with a minimal carbon footprint and sustainable organic practice focussing on sustainable soil management and rejuvenation. The gardens will also be a powerful outreach tool spreading the wisdom of adopting an organic practice approach to gardening throughout the community and a re-connection to how food is grown. Home cook box leases can be shared by up to two families or gardeners (must designate one responsible billing party - one invoice issued monthly – one payment processed).

HGEL plans to bring the Abbot Kinney “pop-up farm” prototype to suitable vacant lots in other active restaurant and retail locations making our brand of “hyper-locavorism” available for neighborhood restaurants all over LA. Each location will also offer a retail nursery and an outdoor classroom for community “edible education” featuring topics from composting to food preserving and, of course, how to succeed at growing food organically at home.
