The Country School

As a home to just over 9,000 people in 1910 to a little more than 14,000 today, Pennington County has been built of small communities, treasured church families and beloved schools.

This structure, the old Washington School District 221, was the first school for at least three generations of Smiley Township children.

In 2015, the school moved down the road about two miles east from its original location. The building has been restored and enhanced in an effort to keep alive the memory and the history of this community’s dedication to learning. Together.
