The Dawson Thomas Law Group

I am a native Houston, Texas resident that learned at an early age that I was drawn to justice. My journey began as a cadet at the University Of Houston-Downtown Police Officer’s Academy where I earned a Texas Peace Officer Certification and was awarded as honor graduate. I had the opportunity to work with U.S. Customs Service (Customs and Border Protection). My quest to interject on criminal activity brought me to a Special Agent position with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. My job was to investigate criminal activity such as fraud, narcotic smuggling and human trafficking.

I achieved my first indictment in Memphis, Tennessee, six months out of the academy. I earned a BS in Political Science from the University of Houston-Downtown and a Juris Docorate from Thurgood Marshall School of Law. By winning 1st place at my school’s mock trial competition, I revealed my strength in trial advocacy, which allows me to thrive in the courtroom.

When I am not practicing law, I enjoy teaching Texas and Federal Government at the University of Houston-Downtown and coaching the mock trial team at Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

The Dawson-Thomas Law Group is owned and operated by Joy Thomas, a licensed attorney in the State of Texas serving the greater Houston Metropolitan area. We provide services in criminal law that varies from misdemeanors to felonies. Civil law is also provided that consists of personal injury, car wrecks and other lawsuits. The family law services entails divorces, child custody and mediation. Estate planning encompass wills, trusts and probate procedures.
