The Ducky Foundation

The Ducky Foundation was started in loving memory of Sheila Porter Sagers. She was born September 22, 1964, and she died August 27, 2015. She has a long and beautiful story, with many chapters and pages that make up her book of life. What she would want you to know, however, was that she loved to read.

Why “The Ducky Foundation”?

Throughout her life, Sheila turned to books to escape from the world, and when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2008, she lost her ability to read. On Easter of 2009, her daughter gave her a small, stuffed duck who she named Ducky. He became her new escape, and her best friend. Through every treatment and every trial, Ducky was there.

The idea for The Ducky Foundation first came in September 2015, around her birthday, the first of “the firsts” for Sheila’s family after her passing. It was decided that for their first Christmas without her, they would purchase a few children’s books and donate them to a local charity. But, that just didn’t seem like enough. So, her husband and daughters came together and decided to start a foundation in her memory – a foundation with a simple purpose. To “Change Your World, One Book at a Time.”
