More about The Front Room Hair Studio and Nail Salon

The Front Room Hair Studio and Nail Salon is one of the new businesses housed in the former Boyer’s Café. Part of it's location was the past home of Dishong's Barbershop and Wink's Snack Shack.
In 1887, Frederick Carpenter built the 3½-story hotel on land he had purchased from his brother, John. Eight years later, Frederick sold the Carpenter Hotel, back to his brother. Upon the sudden death of John in 1897 his widow, Mary leased the hotel to Oliver Hoke.
In 1899, Mr. Hoke moved his family to Manheim, Lancaster County, and Reuben Carpenter, Frederick and John's brother, moved into the hotel with his wife and children and ran the hotel for two years.
The hotel and land were then sold to George Trafford, who had operated the Franklin House, located in Schaefferstown. He became interested in the Golden Key Hotel on the Cornwall Pike and soon sold the Rexmont House to Fred Ehrhorn. Ehrhorn leased the Rexmont Hotel in 1906 to Clinton and Laura Smith who purchased it in 1907, along with their four children ran the family business throughout most of the 20th century. Through the years meals and confectionaries were sold, rooms rented to weary travelers, votes cast as a poling place, meetings and rehearsals were held and mail was received and distributed.
In 1965, Kathryn Smith, postmaster and sole owner sold the popular business to Robert L. Boyer and his wife, Joan. The Boyers and their five children ran the business for nearly 50 years during the end of the 20th and beginning of 21st century. In 2014, after the death of Mr. Boyer, Joan sold the structure and contents to Arden A. Snook and his wife, Tina M. Snook, who are bringing new life to one of the town’s most familiar structures.
