The Gathering Place Mission Women's Shelter

Dear Scott County Community:

We need your help. During the school year of 2016-2017, there were 405 school children classified as homeless in Scott County. We do not have an accurate count reflecting the number of homeless women. However, we do know that number is large due to the numerous calls received at the Mission requesting help from women needing emergency shelter as well as women who are seeking help for themselves and their children. As you know, Scott County has an emergency shelter for men and is in desperate need of a women’s shelter.

The cost to run a shelter such as the one we want to open for homeless women and children will be approximately $95,000 per year. Your financial support is tax deductible and 100% of your donation will go directly to the women’s shelter.

Our goal is to provide an opportunity for women and/or women and their children to have a safe home during the transition from being homeless to re-starting their lives. The nearest emergency facilities for women are either in Frankfort or Lexington. Most of those who are homeless do not have transportation to get to these facilities.

We are currently looking for a facility we can call home for this shelter. We are hoping to have this facility open by the end of this summer. With your support, we will make this happen.

Donations may be made in the form of cash, check, or PayPal. Checks should be made out to The Women’s Shelter and mailed to The Gathering Place, 339 Bourbon Street, Georgetown, KY 40324.
