More about The Haunted McCoy Manor

McCARR, Ky. - Direct descendants of the Hatfield and McCoy clan are in the spotlight in Mingo County once again, but this time it’s for a completely different type of event.

The “Haunted McCoy Manor” is set to make its debut this Saturday night with a private showing for family and local media, as the two-story red brick home that appears to have stepped out of a Southern-based romance novel transforms into a haunted house for the public’s entertainment and thrills.

The home is located at Lovers Lane in McCarr, Ky., and is owned by descendants of Asa Harmon McCoy and Devil Anse Hatfield. For the past two months, the owners have been working each and every day to complete the transformation of the first floor of the house that includes a three-foot wide maze, secret passageways and hidden doors.

Several businesses and individuals have made monetary donations to the project, joining with the homeowners to create a haunted house like the Tug Valley area has never seen before.

“We didn’t want this to look like your run-of-the mill, typical haunted house,” stated George Perkins, whose sister owns and resides in the home. “We have put a lot of effort into this and I’m sure that everyone that comes to view it will agree with me when I say it’s truly a one-of-a-kind creation.”=

“We have one room that creates the illusion that you’re standing in another dimension. We’ve went all out on this project and we’re hoping to have a lot of visitors take the tour.”

The haunted manor will be open to the public every Friday and Saturday evening, beginning Oct. 5 and continuing through the end of the month, between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m. It will also be open Oct. 29 -31, during the week of Halloween. General admission for all age groups will be $5 a person.

“Our facebook page, titled ‘The Haunted McCoy Manor’ had over 8,000 views last week, and we’ve received a lot of compliments and positive statements. We’re hopeful this means we’re going to have a large number of visitors,” said Perkins.
