More about The Kania School of Management

ABOUT THE KANIA SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
The Kania School at the University of Scranton offers highly innovative business programs enriched with the latest technological applications and sharply focused on educating the whole person for a lifetime of success. This dual focus on being on the cutting-edge of scholarly teaching and following the Jesuit principle of 'Cura Personalis' informs and directs everything we do on behalf of our students. You can expect to be the center of attention whether you join Kania as an undergraduate or MBA student, and you can expect to graduate to membership in a distinguished group of outstanding professionals who are Kania School alumni.
As you explore our website to learn more about our programs, our rich resources, and our student-centered community please keep the following distinguishing highlights in mind:
EMPHASIS ON ETHICS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Kania School programs offer the diversity and flexibility to meet different student goals. Our programs in accounting, finance, operations, marketing, business administration, economics, electronic commerce and management are among the finest anywhere, but they also include a strong integration of critical thinking, ethics, social responsibility in decision making and leadership. This emphasis is at the core of our mission as a Jesuit business school to seek excellence and educate men and women for others.
LATEST IT APPLICATIONS IN BUSINESS
Our curriculum is truly infused with the latest technology skills. Brennan Hall, home of The Kania School, is one of the most technologically-advanced business school buildings and supports the curriculum with the latest business applications available. The wireless environment of the University and the Kania Laptop program ensure 24/7 access to business applications and on line resources for all students. As a member of the SAP University Alliance, our students also have the opportunity to work with the latest enterprise software such as the R/3 Enterprise Resource Planning corporate suite, which is used in many courses.
One of our latest technological enhancements is the Irwin E. Alperin Financial Center through which business students at Scranton are getting hands-on experience with financial markets. The Center simulates a trading floor, complete with electronic ticker and news and data feeds. Students can experience professional applications of the stock and other financial markets through market simulations.
ALUMNI AND FACULTY COLLABORATIONS IN PROGRAMS
Our programs and courses are rich in theoretical foundations but also firmly grounded in the real world of business and organizational leadership. Our outstanding alumni work with our faculty to design and teach courses that impart the latest knowledge and skills from the business world. In our economics/finance department for example, a program in Fixed Income Investments is co-designed and co-taught by two full-time faculty members and over ten highly placed alumni professionals from Wall Street and the financial world.
MENTORING PROGRAMS SUPPORTED BY ALUMNI
Our exceptional Business Leadership Program offers students elite leadership courses and the opportunity to be mentored by world-class alumni business leaders such as Mr. Christopher Condron, CEO of AXA financial and Ms. Patricia Clifford, Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources, of Dun and Bradstreet. Our largest business alumni group, The President's Business Council, has also established a highly successful mentoring program in which all juniors are offered an opportunity to be paired with senior executives from preferred organizations for the duration of their college career and beyond.
THE FOUR-YEAR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ‘PASSPORT’ PROGRAM
The Kania Center for Professional Development offers an exceptional program of professional development activities spread over four years to ensure that students develop the non-academic skills necessary for succeeding in the world of business. This additional curriculum challenges students to develop in areas such as interviewing skills, internship and job search strategies, and learn how to succeed in their first career position. In collaboration with the University’s Career Services, the Center also actively brings recruiters to campus to offer internships, co-ops, and career positions.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
The Kania School of Management continues to build a national reputation for values and excellence. We are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the foremost accrediting body for business schools. For the last five years the school has been listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review, and in 2008, Entrepreneur Magazine ranked the MBA program among the top 15 nationally in general management. US News and World Report also recognizes the Kania School specifically among its list of best graduate business schools. However, the best tribute to our quality and focus on our students is perhaps provided in a quote by Peter F. Drucker, ‘Father of Modern Management’: Don’t go to Harvard, but to the business school at the University of Scranton. That’s where they are changing lives.’
