The King Centre Dance Studios

The King Centre for the Performing Arts was founded in 1970 by Nancy King in Ringwood with 305 students.
From the beginning, the King centre always stressed the best in dance education and offerered special workshops with Melissa Hayden, Lisa Danias, Charles Kelley, Judy Ann Bassing, and Frank Hatchett among others, as well as cast members from many Broadway shows.

Early on, Nancy also created a performing group for the King Centre’s students, the New Generation Dance Company, now known as American Youth Dance Company. The King Centre is not only an instructional and competitive school, but through the years has performed its own production of “The Nutcracker” and toured around the region and even around the world. Tours have taken the students to Romania, an exchange tour to Belgium, Paris and southern France, and another exchange tour to England, Scotland and Wales.

In addition to its concert dance performances, King Centre students also have achieved excellence, earning top honors and titles in competitions. An article in Dancer Magazine named the studio one of the top 5 studios in the country.
Many King Centre students have enjoyed professional careers in television, on Broadway, in various ballet companies, NYC Rockettes and film.
Nancy is equally proud of her four children ; Natalie, Brendan, Michael and Christopher.

In 2005 Nancy extended the King Centre tradition to Bergen County where she continues to teach children in a positive, inspiring manner for a new generation, including the children of families who once studied at the King Centre. The King Centre offers dance, musical theater and voice in two locations; Wanaque and Mahwah.
