More about The Lautner Compound

Los Angeles based interior designer Tracy Beckmann of
Tracy Beckman Design and furniture designer Ryan Trowbridge of Brown + Trowbridge purchased the famed modernist architect
John Lautner’s mid-century gem (built in 1947) and spent 3 ½ years on its meticulous renovation. The pair now introduces their chic reworking of this architectural landmark as The Lautner. A hybrid between "upscale vacation rental" and "boutique hotel". The Lautner invites guests to indulge their mid-century fantasies in their own private Lautner flat.

Located at the northern end of the Coachella Valley, The Lautner appeals to the essence of the metropolitan sensibility, relocated to a spectacular desert setting. Embedded amid a who’s-who of quintessential mid-century furniture designers, including Milo Baughman, Harry Bertoia, Adrian Pearsall, Warren Platner and Sigurd Russel, The Lautner guests will find all the necessary luxuries of post-modern living, such as Frette linens, Pharmacopia products, induction cook tops, TV/DVD, free wi-fi, and iPhone docks.

Vintage designer furniture, photographs, and libraries featuring books and DVD’s chronicling the work of both Lautner and Shulman speak to the provenance of the property; meanwhile the present day abounds in stainless steel kitchen appliances and custom built redwood and steel bed frames built by Trowbridge’s furniture company Brown + Trowbridge.

Public areas at The Lautner speak to the finer points of living in a dry heat. An outdoor lounge with fire pit is ideal for brisk evening stargazing, while saline spa and outdoor shower are the perfect counterbalance to midsummer sun. The property is enveloped by rare and expensive succulent gardens which are featured prominently throughout the resort.

The Lautner features four distinctly designed interlocking units, replete with vintage modern furnishings and a full host of amenities. It is one of the few, if only, Lautner designs open for public experience today.

The amenities include:
