Oliver Wendell Holmes called Boston “The Hub of the Universe”.
This “Hub” has been one of the most influential US cities since its founding more than a hundred years before the American Revolution. It is a strategic global capital, an economic, academic, political and cultural leader. However, despite Boston’s origins as a Puritan colony, a legacy of faith, is now in a rapid “post-Christian” spiritual decline. With only one church per 8,000 people, Boston is today a strategic, influential and desperately underserved, unreached people group.
The Puritans who founded Boston envisioned a “city on a hill” to shine the light of Christ around the world, and for centuries, it was. Universities and hospitals were begun as seats of compassion and spiritual enlightenment. The city was a cradle for the Great Awakening of the 19th century. In fact, to this day the motto of the city is Sicut patribus sit Deus nobis -- As God was with our fathers, so may He be with us.
God still has a heart for this powerful city. Today, he is gathering a new group of believers to reach this generation of global influencers for Christ through a new church, a new movement in the city of Boston. Is He calling you?
