The Maker's Waypost

MANIFESTO

The Maker’s Waypost is the innovation of Cydney Cnossen, a multidisciplinary artist, D.I.Y. enthusiast, and homegrown Whitinsville, MA resident who yearned for the artistic fellowship and creative consciousness so freely exhibited in her early career living amid the vitality and support of a city sized art scene.

This Whitinsville based, multifunctional creative space exists as a platform to alleviate the divide between the maker and his or her connection to an active, reciprocating audience. The Maker’s Waypost houses a uniquely curated boutique showcasing an eclectic range of local, handmade products attesting to the promise of fair profit and a voice for the artist, while maintaining affordability for the consumer. The educational counterpart provides workspace conducive to hosting D.I.Y. workshops, local artist talks, and social events.

The Waypost philosophy envisions a revival of the Whitinsville creative community attracting a new wave of makers and viewers to the artist’s destination prospectively to be attributed as a chief influence in defining the
“shop small” culture.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER:

Cydney Cnossen is a painter, jewelry-maker, and woodworker from Northbridge, MA, with a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Cydney spent 5+ years working for Madewell, Newbury Street as an event coordinator, personal stylist, selling manager, visual team leader, and HR maven, while learning the tricks of the vintage clothing trade at underground Jamaica Plain shop, 40 South, under mentor and local Boston rock legend Hilken Mancini. She’s lived the indeterminate life of a maker wanting to succeed at her own craft through doing everything from quitting her job for a year to paint in an isolated lake house in Central Mass, attending two residencies at Vermont Studio Center, and launching Sojourner, a hand-painted wooden jewelry line on Etsy. Cydney returned to her native Whitinsville in 2014 and had her beautiful daughter, Clementine Poppy, who prompted her to pursue the “way of a maker” wholeheartedly and without fear. She founded The Maker’s Waypost in summer of 2015 to give all wandering makers a platform to sell their art and inspire their audience to create also.
