The Mohegan Tribe

The Mohegan Tribe traces it origins to the early 1600s under Chief Uncas, and was federally recognized in 1994. It now functions as a sovereign government within the state of Connecticut with jurisdiction over its reservation lands.

A nine-member Tribal Council and seven-member Council of Elders govern the Tribe, and lifetime chief Lynn Malerba “Many Hearts” was appointed in 2010.

The Tribal Council functions as the Board of Directors for Mohegan Sun and for other gaming ventures of the Tribe under the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority.

Mohegan Holdings was established for non-gaming business ventures of the Tribe and includes KOTA, ThermaGlo, Jersey Mike's, Arooga's and Smashburger locations across southern New England.

Enrollment to the Mohegan Tribe is closed as of June 30, 1996, as stated in our Constitution. The only additions are children of members. The Tribe does not accept further application for membership, except for lineal descendants of individuals listed on the May 11, 2002 Tribal Roll, born after May 11, 2001.
