More about The Open Door: A United Methodist Community

Founded in 1885, The Open Door: A United Methodist Community (formerly known as First United Methodist Church of Cocoa) has a long and rich history of serving many generations of residents of central Brevard County. Originally located at City Point, the congregation moved to a location on Brevard Avenue.

In the 1960s, the church had grown out of its Brevard Avenue location and built the wonderful campus we enjoy today. Our beautiful sanctuary with its stunning windows was dedicated in 1968, during height of the Apollo mission years.

The unique “Drive-In” worship that is such an essential part of our congregation was begun at a drive-in theater in Merritt Island in the 1960s as a cooperative ministry of several congregations. Over the years, it migrated to our campus and now it is one of our service options.

We are also proud to announce that we have brought on a new staff member to create and launch a brand new contemporary worship service. Come join us as we take this new step into the future!

We are proud of our heritage, but are also excited about the future God has planned for our church as we serve future generations!
