The OO was originally founded by Alejandro (Alex) Vega ('13) in 2010, his sophomore year. Named The Anime Club, it was primarily an anime screening club. In its second year, the club was renamed The Japanese Culture Club. President Alex wanted to include more things in the club besides it being solely an anime club. In its third year, the club continued more or less the same as the last year. Additionally, Taylor (Tei) White ('14) was named successor to the club by Pres. Alex along with Austin Hamilton ('14). In the club's fourth consecutive year, President Taylor is changing the club's name to The Otaku Organization. The club will now be less focused on general and traditional Japanese culture and more so about pop culture and otaku culture in Japan.
