More about The Rotary Club of Fremont, California

The Rotary Club of Fremont was chartered in June, 1963 in the city of Fremont, California. From the very beginning the club strength was its diversity of interest rather than similarity of interest. It began as a true cross-section of the business and professional life of the community and has continued this trend over the past 40 years. As a service club, the expertise of its members has been essential to providing valuable insights into the needs of the community. Participation in the club's local, national and international projects has allowed each person who has become a Rotarian to expand his/her perspectives of the community and the world, while building understanding and respect for other professional businesses.

The following professions have been represented in Fremont Rotary: Real Estate, Insurance, Law Enforcement, Judges, Ministers, Engineers, Mortician, Attorneys, Dentists, Doctors, Veterinarian, Bankers, Pharmacist, Educators, Financial Planners, Fire Fighters, and Stock Brokers. Owners in some key businesses represented are Wine Manufacturing and Merchandising, auto dealership, towing service, a restaurant franchise, healthcare, and a grocery business. Non-profit executives from the Boy Scouts, Homeless Coalition, and Salvation Army are also members.

Members have represented key community positions including: the first mayor of Fremont, a city council member, Public School Districts; key city and county employees representing the Planning Department and local Special Districts (water, hospital, etc.) Because of their Rotary activities and generosity two members of Fremont Rotary were honored by the city by naming a school after one and a City Recreation Center for the other.

The City of Fremont continues to acknowledge and recognize the impact the Fremont Rotary Club has had on the improvement of the quality of life in the community. Some of the key projects over the years include: New Citizens Banquet, purchased Patrol Boat used at Lake Elizabeth for safety. Installed picnic tables at local parks, restored Tank House. Installed irrigation systems at park, supported Boys' Club (Mats, P.A. System), supported symphony free Children's Concerts at elementary schools, Planted rose gardens and trees for Callison Day Center and School for Deaf and Blind, built Gazebo at Ardenwood Farms, donated new piano to Senior Center, contributed to High School Grad Night Activities, built classroom and decking for Wildlife Refuge, remodeled cafeteria at high school and beautified the campus, donated and installed playground equipment to Tri City Children's Center. Built new fence for Ohlone College Childhood Development Lab. Built a garden for a Science Project at an elementary school.

The Fremont Club has participated in the Youth Exchange Program. The club sponsors an Interact Club and contributes to a scholarship program at that high school. Members of the club are generous contributors to the Rotary Foundation. Many are double sustainers and have received multiple Paul Harris recognition over the years. Members have traveled to Mexico to build houses for deserving families as an international project. The current members of Fremont Rotary have a rich inheritance of service and involvement in this community.
